Introduction

Searching MCA Master Data sounds technical, but the process itself takes under five minutes once you know where to look. This walkthrough covers the exact steps to search a company on the MCA21 portal and interpret what you find.

Step 1: Go to the MCA21 V3 Portal

Visit the official MCA21 V3 website and locate the "MCA Services" or "View Company/LLP Master Data" option, typically found under the company e-filing or public search section of the portal.

Step 2: Search by Company Name or CIN

You can search using either the exact or partial registered company name, or the 21-character Corporate Identification Number (CIN) if you already have it. Searching by CIN returns a single exact match; searching by name may return a list of similarly named entities, so cross-check the registered address before proceeding.

Step 3: Review the Master Data Snapshot

The result page displays the company's status (active, dormant, under liquidation, or struck off), date of incorporation, registered office, authorized and paid-up capital, and a list of current directors with their DINs.

Confirm the company status is "Active" before proceeding with any transaction

Cross-check the registered address against the address on any invoice or contract

Note the last annual filing date — long gaps can be a red flag

Step 4: Cross-Verify Director Details

Each director listed carries a DIN, which can be cross-searched separately to see what other companies that person is associated with. This step is especially useful during vendor and distributor due diligence, where hidden common directorships can reveal related-party risk.

A Note on Paid vs Free Access

Basic master data search on MCA21 is free. Certified copies of filed documents, such as financial statements or charge documents, require a small government fee per document. For bulk screening needs, third-party due diligence providers offer structured, API-based access.
